On Thursday 27th January 2022, we were delighted to invite Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow to speak to A Level government and politics students about her life, thoughts and experiences as an MP.

Rushanara Ali MP started her career in politics in 2010 and is proud to be one of the 650 MPs across the country to challenge and scrutinise the government where needed in order to get the best for the country.

She thanked the students for their brilliant questions and encouraged them to have a ‘can do’ and ‘give it a go’ attitude, encouraging the students to use their unique voices and experiences to make a difference. “This country and parliament needs talent from people of all backgrounds and cultures, who can use their diverse heritage to make a positive difference to our country.”

Rushanara went on to thank the teachers of Tower Hamlets, including her own teachers, for motivating students to succeed.

Headteacher Paul Woods commented “it was truly wonderful to be visited by such a personable MP. Our students asked some fantastic questions and were really able to relate to Rushanara’s up-bringing in the local community. We hope that it encourages and inspires them to pursue their future aspirations.”
