Year 7 update

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we come to the end of the assessment period for year 7, I wanted to take this opportunity to write to you with some updates and reminders for the remaining weeks of the academic year. We are very proud of how year 7 took on the challenge of sitting formal assessments and are confident that they are preparing themselves for the transition to year 8 and looking ahead to Key Stage 4 requirements.

Year 7 Parents’ Evening

Year 7 Parents’ Evening will take place on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th July 2021. This will be a virtual parents’ evening, which will allow us to provide face-to-face video meetings with teachers through the online platform SchoolCloud. This will replicate our typical Parents’ evenings usually hosted on the school site.

As your child has recently completed their end of year assessments, it will be an excellent opportunity for you to discuss next steps with your child’s teachers based on their set of results. As this is such an important meeting, your attendance with your child is crucial and we really welcome your support.

Further details about how to use SchoolCloud will be sent to you as we move closer to those dates.

Attendance and punctuality

Good attendance is firmly linked with academic success and it is expected that pupils maintain a high level of attendance. This is particularly important for Year 7 students as they begin their Key Stage 3 education. The school day starts at 8.40am and as such, students are expected to be in the West playground lining up with their form from 08.30 onwards.

Laptops

Student laptops have been collected in for their end of year update and health check. We anticipate that students will be given their laptops back in the week commencing Monday 5th July, if not sooner. Please be reminded that it is the students’ responsibility to take care of their laptop, including the charger. Students should bring their laptops to school each day fully charged for use in lessons.

Uniform

You will have seen the recent letter from the Head teacher that details ongoing delays to our PE kit delivery, thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Students are expected to wear their full school uniform, including tie, blazer and school shoes, on non PE days. On PE days the requirement for students who are still waiting for their kit is that they wear a navy blue tracksuit. The full Head teacher’s letter can be found here: https://www.stepneyallsaints.school/uniform-update-21st-june-2021/

Enrichment Day

Tuesday 13th July will be Enrichment Day for the year 7 cohort. This is a chance for all year 7 students to enjoy activities that are outside of their normal lessons. Students will be required to wear their PE kit and will participate in an Olympics/Japanese themed day with their form group. Activities will include Japanese drumming, a karate taster session, an introduction to the Japanese language and a mini Olympics sports activity amongst others. We are looking forward to having some fun with year 7 and celebrating the end of a challenging but successful first year of secondary school.

Sports Day

Sports Day will take place on Monday 12th July. Students will need to wear their PE kit on this day and will compete alongside their form groups. Further details of arrangements for this day will be communicated to you in due course.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support at home. Please continue to check our website and social media feeds @StepneyAS for year group updates and further information regarding end of term arrangements.

Yours faithfully,

Samantha White

Head of Year 7
