27th January 2023

Dear parents/carers,

You will be aware that the National Education Union (NEU) have declared national strike action on Wednesday 1st February 2023, which will impact significantly on all schools.

Having risk assessed the situation, Stepney All Saints School will be closed on Wednesday 1st February.

A small number of students from all year groups will be invited in, where we feel that they would benefit from additional study support on this day. We will contact you if this involves your child. If you have not been contacted, please do not send your child in to school on this day.

Student Expectations/Home Learning

All students

Students in all year groups are expected to maintain a routine and use this day as an opportunity to complete any outstanding homework and pre-learning activities for lessons. A list of useful learning resources can be found here – https://www.stepneyallsaints.school/our-school/curriculum-information/sass-curriculum/.

Year 11 students

Year 11 students should also be spending this time wisely to revise and prepare for their mock examinations that will commence on 6th February.

Sixth Form Students

Key Stage 5 students should also be using this time for extended reading, completing homework and pre-learning.

Free School Meals

Those who are on free school meals are able to collect a packed lunch after school on Tuesday 31st January at 3.00pm from the 1st floor dining hall. If your child is eligible for free school meals and will be collecting a packed lunch please complete the following form – https://forms.gle/UekAZV9hR5XP1hzu8. Please ensure the packed lunch is kept refrigerated until consumed.

Further strike days are anticipated for the 2nd, 15th and 16th March 2023. It is likely that the school will also be closed on these days, however I will write to you closer to these dates with an update.

We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our pupils, and feel that we would be unable to provide this with the staff we have available.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Woods
