Prayers For Week 36 – 12th June 2017

This week we reflect on our attitude toward life and toward the way   we deal with one another.   “When life hands you lemons, make   lemonade.” This truism reminds us that a positive attitude can make bad   times bearable. People who have a positive outlook also enjoy many health   benefits, including a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and a longer   life expectancy, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, a positive attitude   isn’t as simple as being perpetually cheerful. A positive attitude can help   you maintain the mental energy you need to function well in all aspects of   life. It involves being optimistic, friendly, grateful and civil.

Attitude

Monday The theme of the week is attitude.

Reflection Today:  Choosing to be positive   and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live   your life. Pastor Joel Osteen

Prayer:  Merciful and loving Lord, we confess that   we can too often have an attitude that is less than forgiving towards others.   This can especially be the case with the people around us we find it   challenging to get along with. Help us to be as forgiving of others failures   as we are with our own shortcomings. We ask that you renew us each day with   an attitude of optimism, hoping for the best, and an attitude that seeks to   be friendly and open to all people of good will. Assist us to express gratitude   for what we have and a positive attitude about seeking what we feel we need   to improve ourselves. Above all Lord, we humbly ask that you help us to be civil   to everyone we encounter each day.  We   ask this so that we may be an example to others and achieve the common good.  Amen

Tuesday The theme of the week is attitude.

Reflection Today: Weakness   of attitude becomes weakness of character.     Albert Einstein

Prayer:  Almighty Lord, help us to develop a   positive attitude. We humbly ask that you give us the virtues of wisdom,   courage, a sense of fairness and justice,  and above all,  self-control. It can be so difficult to be   self-controlled on all occasions.  Our   school community and society at large can only work affectively when we have   an attitude of civility and self-composure. Help us to think before we speak   and to say what builds others up. May we have an attitude that sees the best   in others and may our actions be honest and kind. May we never behave in a   way that intentionally hurts or grieves others. But, assist us when we make   mistakes, to be ready to admit it, to say sorry and ask for forgiveness. We   ask these things to your glory and for our community’s good. Amen.

Wednesday The theme of the week is attitude.

Reflection Today:  It is not the body’s posture, but the   heart’s attitude that counts when we pray.    Billy Graham

Prayer:  This   prayer was adapted from one written by the Victorian writer Robert Louis   Stevenson (1850 – 1894):  Grant   to us, Oh Lord, an attitude of inward happiness, and the serenity which comes   from living close to you. Daily renew in us a sense of joy, and let your   gracious mercy dwell in our souls and bodies, filling every corner of our   hearts with light and grace; so that we may be endowed with an infectious sense   of good courage, we may be diffusers of life, and may meet all ills and cross   accidents with gallant and high-hearted happiness, giving you thanks always   for all things. Amen

Thursday The theme of the week is attitude.

Reflection Today:  Nothing can stop the man with the right   mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man   with the wrong mental attitude.  Thomas   Jefferson

Prayer:  Gracious Lord, help us start this day   with renewed attitudes that express our gratitude for the new opportunities   this morning brings. Assist us to make the best use of the gifts you have   given us this day and every day. Broaden our minds to appreciate all of your   wonderful creation and the circumstances we find ourselves in.  Give each of us a courageous and positive   attitude that we would not whine and whimper over things we have no control   over but look to you for help and support.    We pray for your continued blessing so that we may be a blessing to   others, speaking to those we come into contact with words of encouragement   and blessing. We ask this in your holy name. Amen.

Friday The theme of the week is attitude.

Reflection Today: There is   little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big   difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether   it is positive or negative.  Imam Ali   Khan

Prayer:   Almighty Lord, help us to develop a   positive attitude. We humbly ask that you give us the virtues of wisdom,   courage, a sense of fairness and justice and above all self-control. It can   be so difficult to be self-controlled on all occasions.  Our school community and society at large   can only work affectively when we have an attitude of civility and   self-composure. Help us to think before we speak and to say what builds   others up. May we have an attitude that sees the best in others and our   actions be honest and kind. May we never behave in a way that intentionally hurts   or grieves others. But, assist us, when we make mistakes, to be ready to   admit it, say sorry and ask for forgiveness. We ask these things to your   glory and our community’s good. Amen.
