Key Stage 3

Year 7

Stitched Monster Soft Toy

Students will create a soft toy monster based on design research and their own drawings. Students will understand the potential qualities of the materials they are using and combine felt, kapok and stitching to create their soft toy monster. Students will learn how to stitch using back stitch and running stitch.

Year 8

Repeat Pattern project

An exploration of repeated patterns and textile designs relating to artists' work or the natural world. The students will analyse the work of a range of artists and textile designers. They will learn the process of creating an abstract repeated pattern based on their visual responses. Students will work on their design, drawing and fabric printing skills. They will also study how repeated patterns are used on products in industrial manufacturing and in the world of fashion. They will create a pattern and apply this to a pattern-based product.  

Year 9

Protest banner

Students will create a banner based on their visual and contextual research of current issues and ideas related to global warming and climate change. The design will be inspired by environmental protests. Students will improve their design making skills while learning new embroidery techniques effectively communicating visual information about their chosen theme. They will look at a diverse range of contemporary protest banners to inspire their work. Students will combine text and image in their design. Students will combine fabric painting, applique and stitching to create their final piece.
