Headteacher's Letter 19.05.2026
Dear Families,
Across the country, schools are increasingly facing challenges linked to inappropriate online behaviour and the misuse of social media platforms by young people. As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing, I am writing to remind families about the importance of safe, respectful and responsible behaviour online.
Social media and messaging platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Discord and others can provide positive opportunities for communication and creativity. However, they can also sometimes be used in ways that cause harm, including the posting or sharing of content intended to upset, intimidate or humiliate others.
We wish to make it clear that harassment, intimidation or abuse of members of any school community online is completely unacceptable. Online comments, videos and messages can have a serious impact on wellbeing, mental health and the wider safety of young people.
Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting children to stay safe online. We strongly encourage all families to regularly check and monitor their child’s online activity, including social media accounts, group chats and messaging platforms. Many online incidents take place outside school hours but can still have a considerable impact on students within school.
Students should also be aware that inappropriate online behaviour may result in serious consequences, including:
- school sanctions in line with the behaviour policy
- suspension or permanent exclusion in serious cases
- confiscation and investigation of devices where appropriate
- referral to external agencies, social media companies or the police where behaviour may be unlawful
We ask all families to remind students that they should:
- think carefully before posting or commenting online
- never post hurtful, threatening or disrespectful content
- avoid sharing videos or images without permission
- report concerns to a trusted adult rather than responding online
We encourage families to maintain open conversations with children about their online experiences and to seek support early where concerns arise.
At Stepney All Saints, we are proud of our inclusive community and expect all members of our school community to demonstrate kindness, respect and responsibility both in person and online, in keeping with the All Saints Way.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for all.
Warm regards,
Ben Siaw
