Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9)

Year 7:

Module 1 : Phonics + verbs (-AR) Getting to know Spanish – phonics and basic verbs

Module 2 : Present tense AR verbs (full verb paradigm) and opinion phrases – How verbs work – freetime activities context

Module 3 : Present tense ER and IR verbs + use of nouns (masc, fem, sing, plural) – Extended language – verbs + opinions – context of school studies

Module 4 : Irregular verbs v. regular verbs – ser, tener and estar     – Memorisation techniques for irregular verbs + extended language with reference to more than one person – context of talking about family and friends

Module 5 : Near future tense and irregular verbs ir and querer  – Use of two verbs together + future references – Context of summer plans + development of spontaneous speech

Year 8:

Module 1 : Preterite tense verbs -AR, ER and IR – Getting to know tenses – applying present and past tense endings in context of travel

Module 2 : Preterite and present tense combined – Using tenses in different contexts – applying present and past tense endings to talk about a range of people in context of free time activities and technology

Module 3 : Preterite, present and near future tense – Using tenses confidently (automaticity) – applying present, past tense + immediate future to talk about a range of people + extended opinions / use of negatives in context of food / healthy living

Module 4 : Reflexive and stem-changing verbs verbs – use of these verbs in the tenses covered + focus on the use of the reflexive pronoun – context of routine and agreeing / disagreeing (presenting views of others + own response e.g. mi madre dice que …. Pero …)

Module 5 : Consolidation-Tenses combined :present, preterite, imperfect, immediate future, simple future and conditional combined with subjunctive set phrases, use of usted – Combining all tenses covered in the context of holidays

Year 9:

Module 1 : Present, preterite, future and conditional: Verb familiarisation regular v. irregular in the present and the preterite (HACER, TENER, SER, IR). Extended writing techniques – Context of future plans – study and employment + suitability for employment

Module 2 : Direct object pronouns, reflexive and stem-changing verbs: Context of health and lifestyle

Module 3 : Imperfect tense: Verb familiarisation regular v. irregular + the imperfect used with the preterite tense. Conditional tense: Verb familiarisation regular v. irregular – Context of local area and issues

Module 4 : Modal verbs with present, preterite, imperfect , immediate future, simple future and conditional tenses combined with subjunctive set phrases – Using modal verbs along with a variety of tenses and subjunctive in the context of fair trade, the environment and fundraising

GCSE Module 1 : Consolidation-Tenses combined :present, preterite, imperfect, immediate future, simple future and conditional combined with subjunctive set phrases, use of usted – Combining all tenses covered in the context of holidays

EDUCATIONAL VISITS: There is an annual KS3 trip to Spain (El Puerto de Santa María)

Key Stage 4 (Year 10-11)

 

Year 10:

Module 1: (covered in Year 9)

Module 2: Comparatives and superlatives, opinion phrases, direct object pronouns, negatives and consolidation of tenses covered – Use of comparatives and superlatives, direct object pronouns, negatives and applying tenses in the context of school

Module 3: Present continuous, ser vs estar, reflexive verbs and consolidation of tenses covered – Applying tenses covered, using the present continuous and reflexive verbs in the context of relationships

Module 4: The perfect tense, combined with imperfect, preterite, present and future tenses, ‘acabar de’ and stem-changing verbs – Use of the perfect tense combined with other tenses covered, ‘acabar’ de and stem-changing verbs in the context of free time/leisure

Module 5: The simple future tense, the conditional, si clauses and set phrases in the subjunctive: Applying the simple future tense and the conditional combined with present, preterite, imperfect, perfect tenses, si clauses and set phrases in the subjunctive in the context of towns/cities

Year 11:

Module 6: Stem-changing and reflexive verbs, tenses combined, the passive and absolute superlatives – Using a variety of all tenses covered, the passive and absolute superlatives in the context of healthy lifestyles, food, Spanish food and festivals

Module 7: Present, preterite, imperfect, perfect, future and conditional tenses combined, imperfect subjunctive, cuando+ present subjunctive – Using tenses combined and imperfect subjunctive in the context of work and future plans

Module 8: Present and imperfective subjunctive, pluperfect and imperfect continuous: Using present and imperfect subjunctive, pluperfect and imperfect continuous combined with other tenses in the context of global issues, the environment and voluntary work

Module 9: Examination skills course

EDUCATIONAL VISITS: There are frequent opportunities to visit Spain at KS4 (Bilbao / Burgos)

Key Stage 3

  • Students use www.quizlet.com where they have access to all of their curriculum vocabulary. Students also have log-ins for www.languagenut.co.uk  – which gives them access to exam focused vocabulary and skills training.

  • ‘Viva’ textbooks are available in the library and can be used to support homework.

Key Stage 4

AQA

  • Students use a range of online resources to help with pre-learning and the application of vocabulary and grammar. 
  • Students have access to online Padlets which gather all revision materials.
  • Spanish GCSE CGP exam practice workbook are available in the library and can be used for listening, reading, translation, grammar and writing practice.
  • Viva textbooks are available in the library and can be used to support homework.
  • Students also have log-ins for languagenut.com – which gives them access to exam focused vocabulary and skills training.
  • Students should also practice describing photos using their photo description sheet in preparation for the speaking examinations.
